“Riin,” the Creator of Fenni — a True Friend Who Embraces Imperfection

Riin – Sirinya Puengsuwan, also known as Poriin, is a Thai artist who brought to life Fenni, an irresistibly cute pastel-colored Fennec fox. But Fenni wasn’t just born from a sweet idea — it was shaped by Riin’s experiences, emotions, and a quiet childhood loneliness.

Looking back, her dream began as a special blend of “a deep love for dolls” and “a stubborn heart that refused to give up.”

As a child with few friends, Riin turned to dolls as her constant companions. Even though she later pursued a science degree to meet her family’s expectations, her heart was always drawn to toys, crafting, and anything artistic. She would sneak away to visit art exhibits and wander through galleries — until one fateful day in her third year of university.

At an art exhibition, Riin stumbled upon a sculpture zone filled with toy-like figures. She stood there mesmerized, eyes shining. That spark of passion she’d kept tucked away was reignited in full.

When Fenni was born, Riin envisioned it as a “true friend” — one that stays by your side no matter who you are or how you feel, just like the dolls that never left her. She also infused each figure with the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi — the beauty of imperfection — expressed through tiny “scars” subtly hidden in every piece. These delicate marks became her quiet signature.

So Fenni became more than a toy — it became a soft presence, a quiet friend to comfort you on both good days and bad, echoing the silent companionship Riin once found in her childhood dolls.

Today, Riin is one of the few Thai artists to sign with Fujian 1983, a major Chinese toy brand, and has taken Fenni into the hearts of fans all across Asia.

In a world obsessed with perfection, Poriin’s characters gently remind us: you don’t have to be perfect to be loved.
